Learn to Speak Portuguese

Many students doing Portuguese at Wits Language School are learning the language for business reasons. Portuguese is one of the fastest growing business languages in the Southern African region due to a need to improve contacts with Mozambique and Angola. South Africa has also been increasing its trade and cultural contacts with Brazil. These factors have pushed the demand for people with a working knowledge of Portuguese.

More Reasons to Learn Portuguese

Improved business opportunity is not the only reason to study Portuguese. Perhaps you have family that is Portuguese speaking and you want to improve or even learn Portuguese formally for the first time. Many of our students can speak Portuguese, but require assistance with writing and correct grammar usage

How you will Learn Portuguese at Wits Language School

Different varieties of Portuguese exist worldwide. At Wits Language School we teach standard Portuguese. Standard Portuguese is understood everywhere, including Mozambique, Angola and Brazil. Standard Portuguese also gives you a good foundation, which you can then easily supplement with additional vocabulary as required.

At Wits Language School we focus on correct spoken communication. We give you ongoing feedback and reinforcement. You will also be introduced to key grammar elements that will assist your speaking practice.

If you have some knowledge of the Portuguese language we will assist you by doing a pre-course assessment so as to place you in the level best suited to your language ability.  Register Online for an African, Asian or European Language Course. We will then contact you to book a Pre-Course French Language Assessment.

Portuguese Language Courses at Wits Language School

Wits Language School offers Portuguese courses at three levels of tuition:

  1. Level 1 (Beginner);
  2. Level 2 (Elementary) and
  3. Level 3 (Pre-Intermediate).

Level 4 (Intermediate) is available on request.

Each Level lasts around six months, with ninety-six hours of tuition*. To make it more convenient for you we have split the levels into modules of 3 months each (Module A and Module B). Modules break up the content into manageable chunks and give you more flexibility. You can work through the Modules and Levels at your own pace and based on your available time. At the end of Module A you will receive a Certificate of Attendance. At the end of Module B you will complete written and oral tests, and will be awarded a Certificate of Competence.

* Courses are run at reduced contact hours when a public class cannot go ahead. This requires all the students’ agreement and an understanding that you need to supplement your learning through additional self-study and independent work in the Wits Language School lab. Semi-private classes are only run when public classes of 8 or more students can’t be offered.

You can read more about our language course levels and outcomes or just Contact Wits Language School with any questions you may have and we will try and assist you as best as we can.
