What Language are you interested in?

Our language courses focus on the more popular Asian and European languages, and African languages relevant in South Africa:

  • European Languages – Italian, French, German, Greek, Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Asian Languages – Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.
  • African Languages – Afrikaans, IsiZulu and Sesotho. You can also learn South African Sign Language, which we do in collaboration with the Centre for Deaf Studies.

Why Learn Another Language?

From improving your career prospects to understanding other cultures, if you learn another language there are many benefits:

  • Work - If you work with people who speak a language different to you, being able to talk to them in their own language will help you to communicate more effectively. If you learn another language it may increase your chances of finding a new job, getting a promotion, a transfer overseas or an overseas business trip.
  • Travel – you need to learn an Asian or European language if you want to travel beyond the traditional touristy resorts, get to know the locals, understand their culture, read signs, read menus.
  • Personal Enrichment – Maybe you're interested in a specific culture, its history, literature or music – if you the language of that culture you will have a better understanding of that culture and it's people.
