Launch your language teaching career

Whether you are new to language teaching or are a professional teacher we have a range of courses that will help you develop your language teaching skills. There are currently three courses offered by the Language Teacher Education unit. These courses are aimed at pre-service and in-service teachers of English and other languages who are interested in teaching English in South Africa or abroad. Part-time and full-time courses are available. The courses are as follows:

Your Language Teacher Education Trainers

JOHN ZACHARIAS - John completed his teacher training in Port Elizabeth (Majors: English and Mathematics) and later his B. Ed (Honours) in Educational Management and Leadership. He has 24 years of English teaching experience and has taught in South Africa, the United Kingdom, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.!   John Zacharias

 

BILL FARQUHARSON - Bill has worked within English language teaching since 1999 when he took his first TEFL training certification and flew to Mexico to learn Spanish. Since then he has worked on 3 continents in a wide variety of environments including English language centres, secondary school, universities and corporate training departments. His experience includes not just teaching, but assessment, materials development and teacher training in places as diverse as Mexico, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. Bill sat the Cambridge Delta exam in December 2010 and plans to complete the other 2 modules of the diploma in 2011.
Following previous contributions to the WLS English teaching and TESOL program, Bill joined the LTE department full time in January 2011.
 BILL FARQUHARSON

 

GEORGINA MA - Georgina has a BA (English, Law) and Honours degree (English) from the University of KwaZulu Natal. She completed her Master’s degree (English Language Teaching) at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and is currently doing her PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand. Georgina has more than 10 years experience in teaching English as a second and foreign language in South Africa and abroad, where she has taught in Taiwan, China and the United Kingdom.

She has been involved in teacher training and development since 2003. Georgina is a member of IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language) and a member of the Teacher Training and Development special interest group.

ANNE-LOUISE DE WIT – Anne-Louise completed a B.IS Publishing Degree and her PGCE (English for FET phase) at the University of Pretoria. She obtained her Master’s Degree (Teaching English Language) at the University of East London in the United Kingdom. Anne-Louise has taught English as a first and foreign language in South Africa and abroad.  ANNE-LOUISE DE WIT
