Tuition options

  1. Public courses - Our public courses are offered at level 1A, and have two modules (A & B). Each module runs for 10 weeks. Courses are offered on Saturday mornings for our standard languages (French, Portuguese, Spanish and Zulu) and Saturday afternoons or weekday evenings for other languages.

    Note: If you would like to continue with the language you have been studying, and progress to the next level, please let us know as we will arrange to contact you when we have sufficient students to make up a class.

  1. Corporate programme – Corporate courses are aimed at public and private organisations who need to train staff in specific languages.
  2. Small groups – Small classes are for the general public and for corporate clients when regular group classes cannot be arranged.
  3. Private tuition – Private classes are arranged for students unable to join regular classes or who have specific language needs not easily accommodated in other teaching settings.
Course Structure

Our courses are offered at the basic level of language competency (Level 1A and Level 1B). Level 2 and Level 3 are offered on demand only.
Courses are structured on a modular basis. In order to complete a level you are required to attend two courses – Module A followed by Module B.
If you have some knowledge of a language, you will be interviewed by one of our facilitators to determine your level of proficiency.
  

Content and outcomes
  

Level 1 – Entry level / Beginner

Level 1 content involves learning basic grammar, phrases and vocabulary. The course involves listening, speaking, reading and writing components which will provide learners with the basic tools to communicate.
  

Level 2 – Elementary

Level 2 learners have some prior knowledge of a language and therefore have a foundation on which to further build their language skills. The course covers writing, speaking, listening and reading activities which are more advanced than the Level 1 course. At the end of the course the learner will have increased their vocabulary and grammar knowledge as well as engage in conversation.
  

Level 3 – Intermediate

The writing, speaking, listening and reading activities in Level 3 are more advanced than the other two levels. Content includes but is not limited to, discussion sessions, reading of newspapers, writing, listening to material and either writing or discussing the subject matter. The learner will gain overall communicative fluency.
 
Certification

Certificates of Attendance are issued at the end of Module A courses. 80% attendance is required.
Certificates of Competence are issued on successful completion of Module A and Module B courses.
