Course Details

Length - Notional study time is 100 hours, consisting of:
- 40 hours - contact time
- 40 hours - self-study time
- 20 hours - assessment time

Structure - Full-time Course
Duration: 2 weeks
Days: Monday – Friday
Times: 08h00 – 16h00
 
Structure - Part-time Course
Duration: 4 weeks
Days: 3 evenings a week and Saturday mornings
Times: Weekdays: 17h30 – 21h00
Saturdays: 08h30 - 13h00


Admission Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be accepted onto the course:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • First language proficiency in English
  • Minimum of a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
  • A professional teaching certificate (e.g. TESOL/TEFL/CELTA or DELTA)
  • A university degree is highly recommended

Teaching Business English (TBE)

Certificate of Competence in Teaching Business English - NQF Level 5

Aims of the TBE Course

To develop the knowledge and skills needed to teach Business English.

Outcomes of the TBE Course

On completion of the course, candidates will:

  • Develop an understanding of the contexts in which Business English is used, the function or purposes that it serves and associated concepts
  • Understand, identify and  respond to the needs of business English learners
  • Have developed an awareness of Business English language and skills and be able to apply these in their professional practice
  • Understand and be able to apply the principles and practice of the effective teaching of Business English
  • Select, employ and evaluate skills, techniques and strategies required to effectively teach Business English
  • Be able to assess and evaluate Business English learners
  • Be familiar with appropriate Business English resources and materials
  • Be familiar with professional development opportunities

TBE Course Assessment

Students must achieve a minimum of 50% in each of the following areas:

  • Written assignments
  • Supervised teaching practice
  • Portfolio

A certificate of attendance will be issued if the minimum mark is not attained.
