Language Teacher Trainer

Applications are invited for the position of Language Teacher Trainer. The trainer will be responsible for course development, training and assessment on pre-service and in-service language teacher education courses in the Language Teacher Education unit at Wits Language School. This is a two-year grant-funded position, contract renewable depending on funding.

Candidate requirements:

South African Sign Language Interpreter / Interpreter Trainer

The Wits Language School is seeking to employ a South African Sign Language (SASL) interpreter/ interpreter trainer. The successful candidate should have extensive professional interpreting experience (SASL/English) in liaison and conference interpreting contexts, possess native or near native competence in South African Sign Language and English, be proficient in at least one other language and be able to train SASL interpreters in both liaison and conference interpreting contexts.

Spanish Language Teacher/Course Administrator 60% 1 year renewable depending on funding. 

Qualifications

  • BA and Honours in Modern Languages
  • Certificate in Foreign Language Teaching

Experience

  • 3 years teaching experience
  • 3 years experience in corporate training

Skills

  • demonstrated competence in the design, organisation and delivery of Spanish language  programmes
  • ability to develop appropriate resource materials in a range of media, including print and electronic
  • ability to deal with student applications, registrations and general enquiries
  • demonstrable knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • information search and research skills

Freelance opportunities for isiXhosa, Sesotho, Xitsonga, Swahili, Tshivenda, Spanish, Russian, Dutch and Arabic translators

Language Qualifications

  • High level of proficiency in target language.
  • Professional translation experience (samples may be requested).
  • Translation or relevant language practice qualification(s).
  • Proof of certification as a sworn iterpreter/translator an advantage.
  • Proof of SATI accreditation an advantage.

Other Requirements

  • South African citizenship or valid South African ID (permanent resident) or valid work permit (e.g. specialised skills visa).
  • Proof of South African bank account and valid SARS tax reference, in order to process payments to you.
  • Own computer, valid email address and telephone numbers, and reliable internet connection; translators will have to work from home, and need to be contactable at all times during working hours.

Remuneration

  • Dependent on enquiries received by Wits Language School.
  • Please note that freelance work is not guaranteed; translators are contacted as and when WLS receives enquiries for their language combinations.
